5 New Apps You’ll Want to Know about for 2012

As if there are not enough electronic devices, programs, and applications or us to keep track of, each year hundreds of new items are always released. Sorting through the apps alone could take days. Luckily, out of the hundreds of new apps being released in time for the new year, there are some that really stand out. For those of us who use Android phones, here are the five most hotly anticipated and interesting new apps to hit the market. None of these apps have release dates as of yet, but it is likely that each will appear early in 2012.

1. Instagram: While Instagram has been around for a while as a photo-sharing program, it has recently taken a new turn and become an Android app. The program will allow users to easily take photographs, apply a variety of different filters to them, and share them on some of the most popular social media sites. The program is still being tweaked a bit, so the release will come in early 2012. For those that can’t wait, popular alternatives include Lightbox and Streamzoo.

2. VLC Media Player: VLC has long been the favored open-source media program around. Exceptionally powerful with a huge number of features have turned it into the most popular media player available. In early 2012, a special Android version will be available to bring the same powerful functionality to the portability of your Android smartphone. Share interesting videos, songs, or images easily with this powerful app.

3. Firefox 10: Firefox is updating their mobile version for 2012. A load of new features, including some strong security features are expected to be included in the latest version. The security features will include anti-phishing and anti-malware technology to give a safer browsing experience for users.

4. Tegra Games: Building on the popularity of Shadowgun, Android developers are developing a large number of interesting Tegra-based developers in an attempt to finally compete head on with Apple for the gaming market.

5. Jolicloud: Android is jumping on the cloud computing bandwagon with Jolicloud. The program should allow mobile users to easily access their cloud from anywhere in the world.

While there are likely to be 100s, if not 1,000s, of new apps in the upcoming year, these five are bound to make a big splash in the Android year. Look for them in the Android marketplace in early 2012.
